| What is the difference between Good, Better, Best in flooring?
|
| The difference between the various Bruce hardwood flooring product lines is simply the amount of allowable character. For example, you'll find the largest amount of character knots, mineral streaks, pinholes, etc. in the Good collection. As you step up in grade, the warranties are expanded and grading is enhanced. |

| Can I install a solid wood floor over a concrete slab? |
It may not be the most recommended situation to install solid hardwood floor over a concrete slab, although it can be done with success. The best way to install hardwood on a slab is to first make sure the slab is dry and doesn’t leak. If slab is ok, a ¾” plywood must be secured to the slab and plastic must be laid down before installation of the hardwood can be nailed. Keep in mind this is raising your floor 1 ½”, which may be too high for ext. doors to operate and other complications may lurk.
Another option that can be a success is to use Bostick’s glue that is also a moisture barrier and glue the wood to the slab. The downfall to this option is you must use all short boards which will cause allot of joints to run close and create a busy floor. Short boards must be used because there is no staples to secure bowed boards you find in lengths. Also if a major water leak occurs the price of tearing out a floor that is glued would be extremely high. |

Absolutely, there are few rules to putting rugs on your floors. First rule of thumb is if you recently had your floors refinished we recommend waiting at least a month to let the polyurethane fully cure. Second is to make sure your rug doesn’t have dye that may bleed and stain your floor, especially in high moisture environment. Finally make sure your rub doesn’t have a rough backing which could scratch the floor. |

| Why are my floors changing color? |
All hardwood floors will change color from direct or indirect light. You may notice going from one store to another what you saw in one may look darker than the other. The best way to understand the color change is to compare a sample board in the show room to a board that comes out of the box and see the color difference. This is because some samples are older than others and hardwood flooring undergoes color changes when exposed to direct or indirect sunlight.
Most domestic hardwoods do not turn color as much as imported exotic hardwoods with the exception of American Cherry and American Walnut. The only way you can help prevent discoloring is to install UV ray windows into your home and should consult a professional in that area. |
